This is how we do itActions that we take every day at Hunland
At Hunland, animal welfare is not treated as a separate responsibility — it is integrated into every stage of our operations. From livestock production and dairy farming to transport and international trade, our goal is to create systems where animal health, comfort and safety are continuously supported through professional expertise, modern technology and responsible decision-making.
Clean waterClean drinking water for animals and surface disinfection
At Hunland Group, we place strong emphasis on safe drinking water, as pathogens multiplying in water systems and well water — including bacteria, viruses and fungi — can pose serious risks to our animals health.
At 8 of our farms, we use the award-winning Hungarian technology developed by GB Water. This modern electrolysis process produces an eco-friendly disinfectant liquid on-site using only 3 ingredients, purified water, salt and electricity.
This investment supports not only animal health, but also our ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) objectives by making our operations more sustainable and responsible.
The technology offers several key advantages to Hunland:
Christal clear drinking water for our animals
The technology reliably eliminates pathogens and ensures continuously clean water quality in an eco-friendly way.
Free from hazardous chemicals
The process does not require dangerous substances, eliminating the need for their transport and storage.
Surface and truck disinfection
Suitable not only for drinking water treatment, but also for replacing general disinfectants in everyday farm operations, as well as truck disinfection before and after animal transportation.
Digital Welfare MonitoringPrevention and natural processes in animal health
At Hunland, we use the AfiCollar system to support early health monitoring and improve animal welfare through real-time data with 2000 cows at one of our dairy farms. The intelligent sensor technology continuously tracks key behavioural indicators such as rumination, activity, drinking and resting patterns, helping our teams identify potential health issues before visible symptoms appear and also using their natural fertility window and therefore reducing the use of oestrogen.
The AfiLab analyses the milk of each individual cow during milking. The system measures milk fat and protein content, as well as milk conductivity which can be an early indicator of mastitis. In many cases, the system is able to send an alert before visible clinical symptoms appear in the animal. Our goal is to prevent animal health problems.
Antibiotic-free dairy managementBoosting animal's immune systems at our dairy farm
At our Seregélyes dairy farm, animal health management is built on prevention, continuous monitoring and supporting the animals’ natural immune response. Operating with a closed herd system allows us to maintain a stable health environment and minimise external disease risks. Instead of routine antibiotic treatments, we apply targeted immune-supportive therapies, mineral supplementation and early intervention based on production data and daily observation.
This preventive approach not only supports animal welfare, but also contributes to consistently high milk quality and healthier long-term herd performance. Today, the farm ranks among Hungary’s top-performing dairy operations, demonstrating that responsible, antibiotic-conscious farming and outstanding production results can successfully go hand in hand.
Animal transportationTemperature-controlled transportation
At Hunland, our commitment to animal welfare goes beyond mere compliance; we aim to set the industry standards through proactive leadership and innovation.
As global weather patterns become increasingly extreme, the challenges of livestock transport intensify. The guidelines of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), regarding ideal internal vehicle temperatures are the ones we take into consideration.
To accommodate changing climate Hunland is actively collaborating with leading trailer manufacturers to develop next-generation, temperature-controlled trailers. By investing in these advanced cooling technologies, we ensure that our animals are transported in a safe, stress-free environment, regardless of the external conditions.
Business-class conditionsTransparent, safe livestock transportation and keeping authorities in the loop
We are constantly working on solutions to reduce risk and optimize animal transportation while leading animal transportation standards.
We’ve developed an online application which helps all parties to get all important details about a shipment. A flexible, automated, online data- and document management solution that can be accessed not only by our drivers or our company, but veterinarians and authorities and animal welfare organisations. This solution guarantees that our animals get to their destinations in the best conditions while all parties get photos and documentation in near-real time.
A-EYE Solutions brings AI onboard for animal transportation, delivering real-time animal welfare monitoring and operational control throughout the entire journey. Using advanced AI and intelligent video analytics.
The system continuously monitors the animal condition, their movement, density and behavior. The system can detect: stress, overcrowding, injury, abnormal situations instantly.
By combining automated welfare oversight with live operational insights, A-EYE helps transport operators improve animal safety, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce losses, and maintain full visibility across fleet operations.
We are equipping our trailers with rear-wall camera systems, enabling an AI-supported monitoring system to continuously upload footage to the aforementioned cloud-based system.
On an experimental basis, we are working with Hungarian authorities to test the possibility of using this system to relieve officials during loading if possible; for example, a veterinarian would not need to attend a nighttime loading in person but could monitor the process by analysing the recordings.
The AI is capable of detecting improper treatment, poor conditions, and even potential weight loss or weight gain in animals.
