A milestone for Hunland: Supplying the foundation herd for
the Baladna Algeria Project
The global livestock sector is focused on one of the most significant investments of recent decades: a $3.5 billion dairy complex being developed in North Africa through a strategic partnership between Qatar’s Baladna and the State of Algeria. We are proud to announce that as a key partner in this project, Hunland has been awarded the contract to supply the initial 30,000 heifers.
Spanning 117,000 hectares and eventually housing 270,000 animals, the facility represents a major milestone not only for agriculture but also for food security in Algeria.
Why Hunland?
In an investment of this magnitude—where the goal is to replace 50% of Algeria’s powdered milk imports-precision is fundamental. Following a rigorous, six-month international tender process, Hunland was selected based on three primary factors:
- Logistics Capabilities: Transporting 30,000 animals from the USA to Algeria via 109 dedicated flights requires a level of organizational expertise that very few companies worldwide can provide.

- Stability: Fulfilling a contract of this scale requires the stable professional and financial background that Hunland represents.
International Cooperation
The significance of the project was highlighted by the formal signing ceremony for the second phase, attended by the Algerian Minister of Agriculture along with diplomatic representatives from Qatar and the United States. Hunland was represented at the event by founder-owner Jos Janssen and Managing Director Tibor Hipszki. The personal presence of our leadership reaffirmed our strategic commitment to the Baladna management and our guarantee for the successful execution of the project.
