Back in Motion: How Hunland Restarted Livestock Exports
This spring brought unexpected challenges to the Hungarian livestock and export industry. After more than fifty years, the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) virus reappeared in Hungary, triggering immediate health regulations and export restrictions. Neighboring countries closed transit routes, while many third countries temporarily suspended the import of Hungarian livestock.
The situation placed significant pressure on export-focused companies—not only in sales but throughout the entire logistics chain. At Hunland, however, we have long been preparing for such unexpected scenarios. The question isn’t whether we can withstand a crisis, but how quickly we can adapt.
Prepared Team, Smooth Restart
Throughout the outbreak, we strictly adhered to biosecurity protocols. This not only maintained our operations but ensured we were ready for a swift restart. By late May, international transport resumed, and Rasa port came back to life: thousands of cattle and sheep were prepared for shipment daily, handled by Hunland’s own fleet.
Managing such large-scale logistics always requires tight coordination—especially in a volatile environment. Our team’s dedication and readiness once again proved that we can respond quickly, effectively, and to a high professional standard.

Quality Isn’t a Campaign – It’s a Principle
At Hunland, quality isn’t a one-off effort—it’s an everyday standard. That’s why, when exports resumed, we didn’t need to improvise. Every tool, process, and colleague was ready.
Even during the most uncertain months, we kept moving forward: we opened new markets, including Moldova and Libya, and now ship livestock there weekly. For us, progress means not just returning to previous levels, but building new opportunities.
Looking Forward – Stronger Than Ever
The FMD outbreak served as a powerful reminder of the importance of foresight, flexibility, and proactive planning. For Hunland, our decades of experience, continuous development, and strong teamwork allow us not only to adapt—but to grow.
The renewed activity at Rasa is not only a logistics success—it’s proof that Hunland leads, not follows. We’ll continue to strengthen our presence in both existing and new markets, offering the same trusted quality, no matter what the challenge.
